With a focus on the lived experience of motherhood, Hannah’s multidisciplinary practice encompasses printmaking, textiles, sculpture, animation, research and the written word.
Hannah’s work primarily deals with feminine identity. Her practice examines the interaction between an individual and their environment: how culture, nature and place can shape who we are in often stealthy or unseen ways.
Her current focus is on modern motherhood, and how prevailing cultural expectations set the tone for women’s experience of parenting in the 21st Century.
It confronts the rollercoaster of emotions that mothers feel, from boredom and resentment through anger, shame, joy and love.
Hannah’s practice embraces printmaking, mixed media collage, animation, writing and sculpture.
She combines print, ink, found materials, machine sewing and hand embroidery to make 2D and 3D objects, frequently using or reusing familiar domestic objects, icons or items of clothing.
Her written work seeks to document and examine the day-to-day experience of mothering, blending theoretical discourse from feminism and art criticism with semi-fictionalised stories from her childhood and that of her two young daughters.
Hannah holds an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, part of the University of the Arts London.
