Some experimentation from the last few weeks – playing with words, images and the facilities. The structural bra image was taken from a cyanotype of a bra, and turned into a digital positive to experiment with both the original image and one inverted. I expected to like the original but in fact the invert worked best. I printed lots of these on different fabrics, using bright contrasting colours, and intend to overprint on these, as well as experiment with embroidery on them.
I also exposed a screen of words and phrases – partly to see if they would work for an idea I have about the mental load – creating a carousel of all the stresses and burdens that a mother carries around. I need to experiment a little more in my sketchbook with these.
Some embroidery as an experiment for a larger piece, done very quickly with spare fabrics – screenprinted tulle, monoprinted cottons and organza – to test out stitching and tracing of handwriting from notes left by my daughters. These are for me and for each other, some loving and some angry – representing the gamut of emotions that I deal with every day as a parent.
