This is a composition using a cyanotype print of a ribbon, manipulated and enlarged in photoshop. I liked the fragility of the woven ribbon, as well as its associations with female decorations or prettiness. I added some words ‘its ok to be fragile’ in a delicate italic script to see if this enhanced the image. These are trials of the photolitho process to see if they work – we had some real problems with a new exposure machine, and it took a number of tries to get the exposure right.
I really like the pale blue – was trying to find a ‘fragile’ colour, but don’t think it totally works here. I plan to make a large version of this, blowing up the section of ribbon to a2 size and overprinting on fabric or brown paper.
